Polyacrylamide (PAM) is a linear polymer with the chemical formula (C3H5NO) n. It has good water solubility and thermal stability. At room temperature, it appears as a hard glassy solid and can be made into various forms of products such as gel, latex, white powder particles, semi transparent beads, and flakes. Polyacrylamide molecular chains have flexibility and conformational variability, and can form hydrogen bonds with other materials, exhibiting unique physicochemical properties such as flocculation, dispersibility, and thickening effect in aqueous solutions.
Water treatment: Polyacrylamide performs well in water treatment, effectively flocculation and settling suspended particles, removing suspended solids and heavy metal ions from wastewater, improving sewage treatment efficiency, and ensuring drinking water safety.
Oilfield development: Polyacrylamide has been widely used as a lubricant, suspension agent, clay stabilizer, oil displacement agent, etc. in drilling, acidification, fracturing, water plugging, cementing, and secondary and tertiary oil recovery.
Other industrial applications: Polyacrylamide is also used in papermaking, coal mining, metallurgy, geology, textiles, and construction as a thickener, flocculant, and drag reducer.
